41.3 X.400 Network Transport

PMDF-X400 provides support for the X.400 Reliable Transfer Service over two network transport protocols:

(On OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX) OSI Transport, and
(on OpenVMS, Tru64 UNIX, and Solaris) TCP/IP, in accordance with RFC 1006 which specifies a method for implementing the OSI upper layers over a TCP/IP transport.

On OpenVMS VAX, OpenVMS Alpha, and Tru64 UNIX, OSI Transport is provided through DECnet/OSI. The version of DECnet/OSI that is required depends upon your operating system version. PMDF supports any version of DECnet/OSI which works with the operating system versions that PMDF supports.

DECnet/OSI provides OSI Transport Class 0, 2, and 4 service over connection-less (CLNS) and connection-oriented (CONS) network layers. Connection-oriented service over X.25 also requires the separately licensed X.25 components of DECnet/OSI. Please contact Compaq Computer Corporation directly for specific information relating to required DECnet/OSI version numbers and components.

Note

The use of OSI Transport services by PMDF-X400 requires that your DECnet/OSI and any related components such as X.25 CONS transport, be licensed, installed, configured, and tested before PMDF-X400 can be configured and tested.

TCP/IP support in PMDF-X400 is currently provided for the TCP/IP supplied with the operating system on UNIX (Tru64 UNIX or Solaris platforms), and for any of the following TCP/IP packages on OpenVMS:

Process Software MultiNet (formerly Cisco MultiNet, formerly TGV MultiNet) V3.5A or later with all UCXDRIVER patches,
Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS V4.0 or later (and with V4.1 you must have "ECO 5" or later installed),
Process Software TCPware V5.0 or later, and
Wollongong Group's Pathway V2.5.x with all patches (in particular C82195) or later.
